Comparing Material Tonnage
Different bulk materials have different densities, so the same volume of crushed rock, sand or aggregate weighs a different amount once delivered. This calculator takes a single area and depth and works out the volume once — area (m²) × depth (m) — then applies each material's typical compacted density to show you tonnage for all three side by side.
Crushed rock is calculated at 1.65 tonnes per cubic metre, bedding sand at 1.55 tonnes per cubic metre, and aggregate or blue metal at 1.50 tonnes per cubic metre — typical figures for compacted material, though actual density varies by source and moisture content.
