Estimating Driveway Materials

A concrete driveway involves more than just the concrete itself — base preparation, reinforcement and finishing accessories all factor into the total materials list. This calculator starts with concrete volume as area (m²) × thickness (m), then adds a standard crushed rock base allowance of 100 mm depth across the same area.

Reinforcement mesh is estimated at one standard sheet per 15 m² (a practical coverage figure that accounts for typical driveway shapes and lap allowances), with bar chair packs estimated at one pack per 50 m² to support the mesh at the correct height, and tie wire at one roll per ten mesh sheets. If you select coloured concrete, the calculator adds an oxide colour allowance of one bag per cubic metre of concrete. If you select exposed aggregate, it adds sealer and surface retarder at one drum of each per 70 m².
