Waffle Slabs

Do waffle slabs need special formwork?

Standard perimeter formwork is used around a waffle slab’s edges, similar to other slab types — the genuinely distinctive part is the waffle pod layout itself, which forms the internal ribbed structure rather than requiring separate internal formwork.

Correctly laying out and securing the waffle pods before pouring is a genuinely important, skilled step — pods shifting or being incorrectly positioned during the pour would compromise the slab’s intended ribbed structure.

This is standard, well-established practice for an experienced waffle slab contractor — a routine part of the process, not an unusual additional complication beyond standard slab formwork.
