What should I do with pets during a concrete project?
Keeping pets securely away from the active work area is genuinely important, both for their safety around machinery and open excavation, and to avoid them accidentally disturbing fresh concrete or work in progress.
For projects involving your backyard specifically, arranging alternative space for pets — a secured different area, or in some cases a friend’s place or kennel for the more disruptive days — is worth planning ahead of time.
Fresh concrete is also worth keeping pets away from specifically until properly cured, both to avoid paw prints in the fresh surface and because fresh concrete isn’t something you want pets walking through or potentially ingesting from their paws afterward.
