Who We Are

A Growing Melbourne Concreting & Excavation Team

HPL Construction is a Melbourne-based concreting and excavation company with over 10 years of experience and more than 1,000 completed projects across Victoria. Our team carries out excavation, house slabs, driveways, bored piers, screw piles and retaining wall construction for homeowners, builders and developers across Melbourne.

Growth across residential and commercial projects means we're regularly looking for skilled, reliable people to join our crews — from experienced concreters and machine operators to labourers and trade assistants keen to build a career in construction. If you take pride in your work and want to be part of a team completing real projects across Melbourne every week, we'd like to hear from you.

Why Work With HPL Construction

Steady, Consistent Work

A strong, ongoing pipeline of residential and commercial projects across Melbourne means reliable hours, not stop-start contract work.

Modern Equipment

Work with a modern fleet of excavators, piering rigs and concrete equipment, properly maintained and suited to the job.

Experienced Crews

Learn from experienced tradespeople on site, with real mentoring rather than being left to work it out alone.

Safety-First Culture

Safe work practices and proper site management are built into how every job runs, protecting our crews on every site.

Variety of Projects

Work across residential slabs, commercial foundations, excavation and retaining walls, rather than the same job on repeat.

Room to Grow

As the business grows, so do the opportunities for reliable team members to take on more responsibility over time.

Career Opportunities

We regularly look for skilled, reliable people across the following types of roles.

On-Site Trades & Labour

  • Concreters & Formworkers
  • Excavator & Machine Operators
  • General Labourers
  • Trade Assistants

Site Leadership

  • Leading Hands
  • Site Supervisors
  • Foremen

Support Roles

  • Truck & Plant Operators
  • Office & Admin Support
  • Estimating & Quoting Support

Training & Development

We don't expect people to already know everything on day one. New team members are paired with experienced crew leaders on site, learning the specific way we approach excavation, formwork and concrete placement rather than being handed a shovel and left to figure it out. For roles that need it, we support relevant tickets and certifications, such as White Card and machinery-specific licences.

Safety training happens on every site, not just at induction — toolbox talks, safe work method statements and proper equipment training are part of how we run each job. As you build experience with us, there's a genuine path to take on more responsibility, whether that's operating more specialised equipment, stepping into a leading hand role, or growing into site supervision.

Our Values

Safety First

No job is worth doing unsafely. We look out for our crew, and we expect our crew to look out for each other.

Quality Workmanship

We build things properly the first time, whether that's a single driveway or a large commercial slab.

Reliability

Turning up on time, doing what we say we will, and being someone the rest of the crew and our clients can count on.

Teamwork

Construction is a team effort. We support each other on site and share what we know with newer team members.

Respect

On our sites, on our clients' properties and with everyone we work alongside, including other trades.

Pride in the Work

We want every team member to be able to point at a finished project and be genuinely proud of it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need previous construction experience to apply?

It depends on the role. Experienced tradespeople are always welcome, but we also consider motivated labourers and trade assistants willing to learn, particularly for entry-level positions.

Do you offer apprenticeships or traineeships?

We consider applications from people looking to start a career in concreting and excavation. Get in touch to discuss what's currently available.

Do I need a White Card to apply?

A White Card is required for construction site work in Victoria. If you don't have one yet, let us know in your application and we can discuss next steps.

Are positions full-time, part-time or casual?

This varies by role and by our current project workload. Let us know your availability in your application and we'll discuss what's suitable.

Do you hire machine operators?

Yes. We regularly look for experienced excavator and machinery operators for excavation and site preparation work across our projects.

What areas will I be working in?

Our projects are located across Melbourne and surrounding growth corridors, so work location varies depending on current jobs.

Do I need my own tools?

Requirements vary by role. Trade-specific tools are generally expected for tradespeople, while general labouring roles typically don't require you to supply your own equipment.

How long does the application process take?

We aim to review applications and respond to suitable candidates as quickly as possible, though timing can vary depending on current hiring needs.

Can I apply if I don't see a specific role listed?

Yes. We accept general applications from skilled tradespeople and labourers even outside of a specific advertised vacancy, and will keep your details on file for suitable opportunities.

What should I include in my application?

Let us know your experience, relevant tickets or licences, the type of role you're interested in, and your availability, and we'll be in touch if there's a fit.
