Choosing The Right Concrete Pump

Most residential slabs and footings need a concrete pump to move concrete from the truck to the pour location, especially where site access does not allow a truck chute to reach directly. This calculator gives you a starting reference point based on your pour volume: smaller pours generally suit a line pump, while larger volumes typically call for a small or large boom pump.

Pours up to 50 m³ are shown against a typical line pump reference rate. Between 50 m³ and 100 m³, a small boom pump is suggested at a higher indicative rate to reflect the larger equipment involved. Above 100 m³, pours generally need a large boom pump, which is priced on a job-by-job basis depending on boom length and site access, so we recommend contacting us directly for these larger volumes.

A line pump moves concrete through flexible hoses laid out to the pour location, suited to smaller volumes and tighter access. A boom pump uses a hydraulic arm to place concrete directly and can handle larger volumes and more difficult access, at a higher hire cost.

Why does pump cost vary so much between jobs?

Boom length, pour duration, how far the pump needs to reach, and site access all affect cost. A pump that needs to reach over a house or across a difficult site costs more than a straightforward slab pour with clear access.

Do I always need a pump for a residential slab?
