Concrete Driveways

Can heavy trucks or caravans park on a home driveway?

A standard residential driveway is generally designed for typical passenger vehicle loads — regularly parking genuinely heavy vehicles (large trucks, laden trailers, heavy caravans) can exceed what a standard design accounts for.

If you know you’ll regularly need to accommodate heavier vehicles, telling your contractor this upfront lets them design and specify your driveway’s thickness and reinforcement accordingly, rather than discovering the load was heavier than planned for after the fact.

Occasional heavier loads (a one-off delivery truck, for instance) are less of a concern than sustained regular heavy use, which is what genuinely drives the need for a heavier-duty design specification.
